Toen ik (= Henk Borkhuis) eind 1998 contact kreeg met met Carol(Borkhuis) Edwards in Amerika was 驮 van de eerste dingen die ze mij vertelde dat haar ex schoonvader Claude Pellet altijd had verteld dat er een Borkhuis in de gevangenis had gezeten omdat hij een brood had gestolen.

Carol mailed me: Claude Borkhuis is 89. He told me there are a number of Borkhuises buried in a cemetery near Rochester. He also mentioned a family Bible-but this would take some time to research.
Claude also told me that Borkhuis meant ?large house? or ? house of bark?. A story he related to me about ? some relative in Holland? who stole a leaf of bread, was caught and put in jail. This Borkhuis asked for a large sheet of paper, so he could do a drawing. He was given the paper which he fastened to his cell wall. The guards would ask, ? why are you drawing a boat ??. I?m going to sail to America says he, and he did, because behind his ship he had broken thru the wall !!. Supposedly he got work on a boat and made it to America.
